How It Got Its Score: The Acura RDX is a smaller and less bulky crossover than the bigger Acura MDX. However, its high price knocks its Family Friendliness down a few notches.
The Acura RDX is a smaller, sportier crossover offering from the upscale division of Honda. Competing with other small premium crossovers like the BMW X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLK, the 2010 Acura RDX gets a restyled front end for 2010, and a front-wheel drive model was added to the mix as well. However, this all-wheel drive model benefits from the company's excellent Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. The RDX comes standard with a leather interior, very good audio system and many other luxury touches, and has a Technology Package that adds a rear-view camera, navigation system and a surround-sound audio system. However, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine demands premium fuel and doesn't deliver particularly good fuel economy, even in front-wheel drive models. In addition, the base price is well over $35,000, hurting the all-wheel drive RDX's Family Friendliness rating even more than the front-wheel drive model's.
