2010 Chevrolet Impala LTZ

Family Friendliness: 7.4

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications apply to this model only.

What it Is: A low-priced full-size sedan.
Who it's For:
Families who need no more than two LATCH points, but want a sedan.
What's Hot: A traditional American sedan that's comfortable to drive.
What's Not: Only so-so crash test scores from the IIHS.
How It Got Its Score: The Impala didn't do too well in IIHS crash tests. The LTZ's engine also gets worse fuel economy than the LS and LT.

The 2010 Chevrolet Impala is a full-sized sedan in the classic American sense. The LTZ offers a bigger and more powerful engine than the LS and LT models, along with additional standard features such as leather upholstery. However, unless you're truly power hungry, we'd skip the LTZ's bigger engine for the LS or LT's smaller, more fuel-friendly V-6. Premium features are few, limited mostly to leather upholstery and a few other fairly common luxury items.

Family sedans don't get much more traditional than the 2010 Chevrolet Impala. With a big back seat and huge trunk, there's plenty of room, regardless of how old your rear seaters are. The two outboard LATCH positions leave plenty of room in the center for a third person, and the big trunk can hold plenty, even if you have a stroller. The biggest drawback to the Impala is its age. Introduced in 2005, the current Impala is nearing the end of its product cycle, which shows in its relatively mediocre showings in IIHS crash tests. A new Impala will likely be available in a year or so, at which time it will be more competitive against newer cars like the 2010 Ford Taurus. For now, its low price makes up for some of its other drawbacks.
