2010 Dodge Journey SXT Front-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 8.1

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to R/T models.

What it Is: The Dodge Journey SXT is a five-passenger crossover utility vehicle.
Who it's For: Families who need no more than two LATCH points.
What's Hot: Attractive styling, optional seating for seven and built-in booster seats.
What's Not: So-so fuel economy next to the competition.
How It Got Its Score: The Dodge Journey has many of the pieces in place, but its so-so fuel economy and standard 5-passenger capacity limits its Family Friendliness score.

The Journey is Dodge's entry into the hotly-contested crossover market. The mid-level SXT and top-line R/T both come with a V-6 engine, but the fuel economy isn't that good compared to many of the Journey's competition. The Journey competes against both five-passenger and seven-passenger crossovers. As a five-passenger vehicle it does well, with similar or better specifications to the Ford Edge. We especially like the $295 Family Value option group with its pop-up child booster seats in the second row. However, if you opt for the $995 third row of seats, you loose a great deal of cargo space behind those seats, which combines with the price bump to make the Family Friendliness score a wash regardless of how the vehicle is configured. Many other options are available on the SXT, but many competitors offer a better value.
