2010 Dodge Charger R/T All-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 6.2

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications apply to this model only.

What it Is: A full-size five-passenger sedan.
Who it's For: Families who need no more than two LATCH points, but want a traditional sedan.
What's Hot: Aggressive styling and a powerful V-8 engine, plus all-wheel drive traction
What's Not: Poor fuel economy and crash test scores.
How It Got Its Score: The Charger R/T's lousy fuel economy and poor IIHS crash test scores penalize it significantly.

If you're looking for a muscular sedan to haul the kids and don't care much about fuel economy, then the Dodge Charger R/T is a good choice. Add in the available all-wheel drive, and you have a muscle sedan that will even get you around on those snowy winter days. However fun its V-8 engine and aggressive looks may be for some, the reality is that the Charger R/T falls short as a day-to-day family hauler. That big V-8 engine drinks a lot of fuel, and its safety scores from the IIHS aren't particularly good in side and rear impacts, where the Charger got Poor and Marginal scores, respectively.

On the plus side, the Charger offers up a wide and comfortable rear seat and a generous trunk. It also has an available rear-seat DVD player. Still, with the poor crash test scores, we'd think twice before signing up.
