How It Got Its Score: Compared to other muscle cars, the Challenger's big trunk and three-across rear seat help significantly. The R/T's higher price and poor fuel economy hurt its score.
Dodge offers the complete muscle car package with the Challenger R/T with its 372-horsepower, Hemi V-8. Fill it up with premium, and horsepower bumps to 376. The power only costs single mpg in the city and still nets 25 mpg on the highway with the five-speed automatic. Pick the six-speed manual and mileage slips to 15 city, 24 highway. Still, the figures are class competitive, but like they say, power corrupts. While the list of features isn't very long, all of the Uconnect electronics -- phone, multimedia, navigation and Web -- are available. Traction and stability control are standard and the ABS includes brake assist. The R/T gains options over the SE, such as performance suspension, limited-slip differential, 20-inch wheels and a rear spoiler. It also retains the Challenger's more family friendly features, such as the stroller-sized trunk and three-across rear seating.
