2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8

Family Friendliness: 5.9

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications apply to this model only

What it Is: A large, two-door sporty coupe.
Who it's For:
Families shopping for a high-performance sedan who can live with only two LATCH points.
What's Hot: Just the right touch of retro styling, Hemi V-8, all the electronic goodies are available.
What's Not: Power comes with price—the $1,700 gas guzzler tax
Family Friendly Options: Navigation, Bluetooth, web acccess.
How It Got Its Score: Steep price tag is the biggest drag on the score

We have to admit that this model strains the idea of a family car, not only because it's a two-door with not-great fuel economy, but also the steep price tag and gas guzzler tax. The 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque can accelerate hard enough to pin the kids back to their Graco boosters, and you're virtually guaranteed to beat all the other moms and dads to soccer practice. There aren't a whole lot of options to add on because the SRT8 starts out with 20-inch wheels and performance suspension. There's the limited-slip differential and upgraded audio systems. Of course all of the Uconnect electronics are available—phone, multimedia, navigation and Web. While expensive and largely impractical, the Challenger SRT8 also shares a couple of important features with its less expensive SE and Rr/T brethren: A big trunk and three-across seating, both rarities in the sporty coupe class. So if want a car that not only keeps up with the Joneses but leaves them in the dust, this might be the ticket.
