2010 GMC Acadia SL Front-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 8.7

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to SLE, SLT1 and SLT2 front-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A large crossover SUV with seating for up to seven.
Who it's For: Families who need up to three LATCH points, plus lots of cargo and passenger space.
What's Hot: The Acadia is actually bigger inside than GMC's full-size SUV, the Yukon.
What's Not: Good-for-the-class fuel economy still not great.
How It Got Its Score: The Acadia's size, safety equipment, passenger capacity and cargo space easily trump its somewhat low fuel economy.

The GMC Acadia is one of the biggest crossover utility vehicles on the market, helping to fill a gap left when GM stopped making minivans a few years ago. The Acadia's large cargo area behind the third row combine with plentiful passenger space to make it more roomy inside than the otherwise larger GMC Yukon, the brand's full-size SUV. The price is reasonable for a vehicle this size, too. The Acadia is nicely equipped, with clever features such as a second-row sliding mechanism that compacts the seat to allow better access to the third row, which is roomy enough even for adults. Downsides are few, limited mostly to fuel economy scores that we wish were better. Stick with the front-wheel drive model unless you really need. the added traction of all-wheel drive in areas prone to bad weather.
