2010 GMC Terrain SLE-1 Front-Wheel Drive
What it Is: The Terrain is a five-passenger small crossover utility vehicle.
Who it's For: Families who need no more than two LATCH points and moderate hauling capability.
What's Hot: Classy interior and a fuel-efficient four-cylinder.
What's Not: Exterior styling is an acquired taste.
How It Got Its Score: Compared to other small all-wheel drive utility vehicles the Terrain does well, and is hurt primarily by a base price that's a little higher than some of its competitors.
The GMC Terrain is the second crossover from the all-truck GMC division of General Motors, and it shares its underpinnings with the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and the Cadillac XXX. Slotting between the two price-wise, the Terrain also splits the difference between them on standard and optional equipment. The Terrain tries to keep a visual familiarity with other GMC vehicles, although the big-truck styling looks a little forced to us. Once inside, however, the GMC Terrain offers a comfortable and roomy interior that rivals many mid-size two-row crossovers, such as the Ford Edge. The Terrain's plentiful standard equipment, many options and excellent crash test scores make it a must-shop for anybody looking for an affordable crossover with a touch of luxury. The front-wheel drive four-cylinder models offer plenty of power unless you need to tow a small trailer, and all-wheel drive isn't really needed unless you live in an area prone to bad weather.
