2010 GMC Terrain SLE-1 All-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 8.1

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to SLE-2, SLT-1 and SLT-2 four-cylinder all-wheel drive models.

What it Is: The Terrain is a five-passenger small crossover utility vehicle.
Who it's For: Families who need no more than two LATCH points and moderate hauling capability.
What's Hot: Classy interior and a fuel-efficient four-cylinder.
What's Not: Exterior styling is an acquired taste.
How It Got Its Score: Compared to other small all-wheel drive utility vehicles the Terrain does well, with the all-wheel drive model hurt by its slightly higher price and lower fuel economy.

The GMC Terrain shares its underpinnings with the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and the Cadillac XXX. Slotting between the two price-wise, the Terrain also splits the difference between them on standard and optional equipment. As the second crossover from the all-truck GMC brand, the Terrain tries to keep a visual familiarity with other GMC vehicles, although the big-truck styling looks a little forced to us. Once inside, however, the GMC Terrain offers a comfortable and roomy interior that rivals many mid-size two-row crossovers, such as the Ford Edge. The Terrain's plentiful standard equipment, many options and excellent crash test scores make it a must-shop for anybody looking for an affordable crossover with a touch of luxury. Unless you live in snowy climates, we'd skip the all-wheel drive and save money at the dealership, and at the pumps.
