2010 GMC Terrain SLE-2 Front-Wheel Drive V-6
What it Is: The Terrain is a five-passenger small crossover utility vehicle.
Who it's For: Families who need no more than two LATCH points and moderate hauling capability.
What's Hot: Classy interior and a powerful V-6
What's Not: Exterior styling is an acquired taste, and fuel economy is only so-so.
How It Got Its Score: The GMC Terrain scores a little below against many other small and mid-size V-6 crossovers, due primarily to its lower fuel economy and higher base price.
The GMC Terrain shares its underpinnings with the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and the Cadillac SRX. Slotting between the two price-wise, the Terrain also splits the difference between them on standard and optional equipment. As the second crossover from the all-truck GMC brand, the Terrain tries to keep a visual familiarity with other GMC vehicles, although the big-truck styling looks a little forced to us. Once inside, however, the GMC Terrain offers a comfortable and roomy interior that rivals many mid-size two-row crossovers, such as the Ford Edge. The V-6 engine is only available on the more expensive SLE-2 model and above, making the entry point for V-6 power higher than some other V-6 powered small crossovers; fuel economy is competitive, but still lags some competitors. The V-6 is plenty powerful though, and a must if you want to tow anything with your Terrain, such as a small camper or watercraft trailer. However, if you don't need to tow you'd probably be satisfied with the four-cylinder.
