2010 GMC Terrain SLE-2 All-Wheel Drive V-6

Family Friendliness: 7.8

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to SLT-1 and SLT-2 all-wheel drive V-6 models.

What it Is: The Terrain is a five-passenger small crossover utility vehicle.
Who it's For: Families who need no more than two LATCH points and moderate hauling capability.
What's Hot: Classy interior and a powerful V-6
What's Not: Exterior styling is an acquired taste, and fuel economy is only so-so.
How It Got Its Score: The GMC Terrain scores a little below against many other small and mid-size V-6 crossovers, due primarily to its nearly $30,000 base price.

The GMC Terrain shares its underpinnings with the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and the Cadillac SRX. Slotting between the two price-wise, the Terrain also splits the difference between them on standard and optional equipment. As the second crossover from the all-truck GMC brand, the Terrain tries to keep a visual familiarity with other GMC vehicles, although the big-truck styling looks a little forced to us. Once inside, however, the GMC Terrain offers a comfortable and roomy interior that rivals many mid-size two-row crossovers, such as the Ford Edge. The V-6 engine is only available on the more expensive SLE-2 model, making the entry point for the model higher than many other V-6 powered small crossovers; add all-wheel drive and the price climbs further. The V-6 is plenty powerful though, and a must if you want to tow anything with your Terrain, such as a small camper or watercraft trailer. However, if you don't need to tow you'd probably be satisfied with the four-cylinder, and we'd also skip the all-wheel drive unless you absolutely need it.
