2010 Honda Element LX Front-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 7.9

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to EX and SC models.

What it Is: A four-passenger, four-door compact crossover.
What's Hot: Clever packaging includes a hose-out interior, SC package has carpet and other upgrades.
What's Not:
Only four passengers.
Family Friendly Options: Dog-friendly package, navigation, USB port for iPod.
How It Got Its Score: A low-priced crossover like the Honda Element has a lot going for it, like useful cargo space inside and decent fuel economy. Too bad it only seats four.

The 2010 Honda Element is designed to appeal to outdoorsy types, so there are a few peculiarities about its design. For example, the rear doors on this four-door crossover are hinged at the rear, thus giving the Element a big opening that makes it easier to put, say, a child seat in the back. The LX and EX models also have a hose-off vinyl floor, perfect for cleaning up spills. There's good cargo space, and because the rear seats flip to the sides instead of forward, there's room for tall objects as well. Problem is, there are only four seats, so the Element is limited when it comes to family hauling. However, if your family includes four-legged members of the canine variety, then the Element is definitely worth a look thanks to the special dog accessory option available that includes a zip-up dog carrier and a small ramp to ease Fido's entry and exit. If you like the looks of the Element but want a nicer interior, then the Element SC might be for you, with its carpeted floors and generally nicer interior trim.
