2010 Honda Fit

Family Friendliness: 7.3

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications apply to this model only.

What it Is: A five-passenger, five-door small hatchback.
What's Hot: Exceptionally clever second row, surprising cargo room for such a small car.
What's Not:
A little pricey for a subcompact, fuel economy not much better than a Honda Civic.
Family Friendly Options: USB port.
How It Got Its Score: The 2010 Honda Fit has good cargo room and fuel economy, but unfortunately stability and traction control aren't available on the base model, hurting its score.

Subcompacts are an entry-level choice for many buyers, but unfortunately, they're generally not a very family friendly bunch. The 2010 Honda Fit does surprisingly well in a few areas though. First, it's quite roomy, considering its small proportions. The cargo area is also quite large, again, belying its exterior appearance. One of the coolest things about the Fit is its rear "Magic Seat," as Honda likes to call it. Multiconfigurable and with a hidden storage compartment underneath, the Fit's seats fold flat to expose a truly remarkable 57.3 cu.-ft. of cargo area. For comparison's sake, that's more than the much larger (and more expensive) Honda Accord Crosstour. The low price is also tempting, although it's not much of a stretch to a larger Honda Civic (you can save $800 if you get a manual transmission). The biggest drawback with the base Honda fit is that it lacks stability and traction control, which we deem necessary even in a small car like this. Both are standard on the Honda Fit Sport, significantly raising its Family Friendliness score.
