2010 Honda CR-V LX All-Wheel Drive
What it Is: A five-passenger compact crossover.
Who it's For: Families on a budget who need no more than two LATCH points.
What's Hot: Low base price, a roomy interior, and all-wheel drive on the base model.
What's Not: No V-6 available at any price.
How It Got Its Score: The CR-V offers very good fuel economy and a low price, both of which contribute to its family friendliness score.
The Honda CR-V was one of the first compact crossovers, and is still one of the best selling from year to year. It offers a combination of a low base price, good fuel economy and a comfortable and roomy interior that other manufacturers find hard to match. One key feature is that the all-wheel drive system is available on the base LX model; many competitors make you pony up for a more expensive model before all-wheel drive is available. It makes the CR-V LX one of the least expensive all-wheel drive crossovers you can buy. In addition, the fuel economy penalty is minimal, which makes this one of the few all-wheel drive systems that is acceptable to us, even if you don't live in a particularly foul-weather-prone area. On the down side, the CR-V isn't available with a V-6 engine at any price, putting it out of the running for those who need to tow a trailer.
