2010 Hyundai Veracruz GLS Front-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 8.3

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to Limited front-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A seven-passenger crossover utility vehicle.
Who it's For:
Families who occasionally need extra passenger space and no more than three LATCH points.
What's Hot: High levels of comfort and luxury at a decent price.
What's Not: Cargo and passenger space is tight.
How It Got Its Score: While the Veracruz looks good in many respects -- literally and figuratively -- its small cargo area and tight interior put it at a disadvantage compared to other three-row crossovers.

Hyundai is remaking itself as a near-luxury brand, and it's clear that the Veracruz has targeted the Lexus RX family of crossovers. However, the Veracruz beats the luxury car maker's crossover in a couple of areas. First, First, the Veracruz is a three-row crossover, meaning it can hold seven passengers; the Lexus can seat only five. Second, and not surprisingly, the Hyundai is considerably cheaper. Put them together and you have a solid value, especially considering that the Veracruz offers a very nice and comfortable interior. Still, fuel economy is only so-so, and when the third row is up it leaves little room for cargo compared to many other three-row crossovers. Besides "affordable" is relative, considering the Veracruz's nearly-$30,000 base price.
