2010 Jeep Patriot Limited Front-Wheel Drive
What it Is: A small, five-passenger, front-wheel drive crossover utility vehicle.
Who it's For: Families who dig the Jeep look but don't need off-road capability.
What's Hot: Neat looking Jeep styling, one of the lowest priced crossovers on the market, more powerful engine than base model.
What's Not: Cheap interior, noisy engine.
Family Friendly Options: Seat-mounted airbags, upgraded audio system, Bluetooth, navigation, iPod integration.
How It Got Its Score: The Jeep Patriot Limited is the model Jeep wants you to buy, and it saves most of the good options for its most expensive model. However, the higher price hurts its Family Friendliness rating.
If you want a Jeep Patriot, and you want front-wheel drive, and you want the bigger 2.4-liter four-cylinder, and you want an automatic transmission, this is your only choice. Jeep saves most of its higher end options for the Limited, which makes it a popular seller since you have to climb all the way up to this point to get things like Bluetooth, a USB connection for your iPod, and other niceties. However, they're all still optional and add significantly to the price. Fuel economy is an issue with the continuously variable automatic transmission used in the Patriot, as it slips significantly from models equipped with the five-speed manual transmission. Self-shifters can also save $1,100 off the price, too. While the Patriot offers decent cargo space and distinctive Jeep styling, after a week of driving a fully loaded Patriot Limited, we decided that it's best to just scratch it off your shopping list altogether.
