Kia

2009 Kia Borrego LX V-6 Rear-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 8.1

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to EX V-6 rear-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A full-size seven-passenger SUV
What's Hot: Competitive price, decent fuel economy for the class.
What's Not:
Small cargo area behind third row.
Family Friendly Options: Premium audio, Bluetooth, navigation system with backup camera (EX only)
How It Got Its Score: Full-size SUVs are often hobbled by two things: Fuel economy and price. While fuel economy in the V-6 Kia Borrego is OK for the class, and it's not too expensive, it gets dinged for a small cargo area.

If the 2009 Kia Borrego has one problem, it's timing. Kia introduced its full-size SUV just as the car market took a nosedive, and unfortunately the big SUV's sales suffered, forcing Kia to continue selling 2009 models during the 2010 model year. However, that timing has nothing to do with the underlying goodness of the vehicle. The Borrego is nicely equipped, comes with plentiful standard features, and scores well in crash tests. It's also fuel efficient, compared to other full-size SUVs, and with a base price just over $27,000, it's pretty affordable, too. The biggest knock against its Family Friendliness score is the small cargo area behind the third row of seats.
