Kia

2009 Kia Borrego EX V-8 Rear-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 8.0

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to Borrego Limited rear-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A full-size seven-passenger SUV
What's Hot: Good towing capacity, competitive price, plentiful standard features.
What's Not:
Small cargo area behind third row, so-so fuel economy.
Family Friendly Options: Premium audio, Bluetooth, navigation system with backup camera.
How It Got Its Score: The V-8 powered 2009 Kia Borrego has good power, but fuel economy suffers. Cargo space is also tight, but lots of safety features and seven passenger capability help make up for it.

In a quirk of market timing, Kia still has plenty of 2009 Kia Borregos around, even though it's the 2010 model year. If you need a full-size V-8 SUV, then you should take a look, because Kia's timing goof -- introducing a full-size SUV just when the market for them collapsed -- is your gain. The Borrego is inexpensive, at just under $32,000, and can tow up to 7,500; boaters take note. It also offers up plenty of standard features and can seat seven. However, the small cargo area behind the third row means you just might have to get that trailer if all seven seats are filled on a camping trip, and fuel economy is only so-so compared to V-6 models.
