2010 Kia Optima EX V-6

Family Friendliness: 7.8

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to SX V-6 models.

What it Is: A midsize four-door five-passenger sedan.
What's Hot: Low base price for a V-6 sedan.
What's Not:
Smaller than many competitors.
Family Friendly Options: Premium audio system, navigation.
How It Got Its Score: The 2010 Kia Optima gets decent fuel economy and has a big trunk. Combine them with the low price and you get a good Family Friendliness score.

The Kia Optima is one of the older midsize sedans in the segment, and it's starting to show. Noticeably smaller than many competitors, the Optima also offers up a V-6 engine that's considerably weaker than those vehicles, too. Safety is good but not great thanks to so-so crash test scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), where it only scored Acceptable and Marginal for side and rear impacts, respectively Still, the Optima has its merits. A 2008 refresh gave it a sharp new nose and tail, and even with the premium audio and navigation packages it comes in at only a hair over $26,000, which is a pretty good bargain for a leather-lined V-6 powered sedan. Even with that in mind, we'd probably still wait for the new Optima, which is scheduled to come out later in 2010 as a 2011 model.
