2011 Kia Sorento LX All-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 8.4

Recommended: Yes

Specifications also apply to EX four-cylinder all-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A five or seven-passenger, all-wheel drive crossover utility vehicle.
Who It's For: Families who need no more than two LATCH points, want all-weather capability, and need plenty of cargo space or extra passenger room.
What's Hot: Sharp new styling, standard Bluetooth and USB.
What's Not: Tiny cargo area behind optional third row seat.
Family Friendly Options: Navigation, backup camera.
How It Got Its Score: The Kia Sorento's good Family Friendliness score stays high even with all-wheel drive due to its low price, good fuel economy and excellent safety equipment and crash test scores.

The redesigned 2011 Kia Sorento doesn't just look different. It's fundamentally different, switching from a truck-based SUV to a car-based crossover. It also gains an optional third row of seats, a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, and a slew of standard equipment that's usually optional on competing vehicles, such as Bluetooth cell phone integration and a USB port for iPods. With a standard fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine and optional third row of seats, the 2011 Kia Sorento is one of a handful of three-row, four-cylinder vehicles that's currently available. Keep in mind though that the third row is really for occasional use; if you plan on using the Sorento as a full-time seven-passenger vehicle, you'll likely find that the 9.1 cu.-ft. of cargo space behind the third row is far from adequate. All-wheel drive adds expense and cuts down on fuel economy, but the Family Friendliness score is still high, and the price premium isn't going to break the bank.
