How It Got Its Score: The Lincoln MKZ offers up the same attributes as the Ford Fusion, but its luxury brand, high-end options and more luxurious surroundings drive up the price, and lower the score.

Along with a major exterior refresh for the 2010 model year, the 2010 Lincoln MKZ got some significant changes inside, too. The more luxurious interior includes optional Bridge of Weir leather seats, genuine wood trim and other features that are exclusive to the MKZ, further distinguishing it from the more mainstream Ford Fusion, with which it shares its mechanical underpinnings. The front-wheel drive version gets better gas mileage than the all-wheel drive, although may shoppers in the luxury segment demand rear- or all-wheel drive in their cars. There's a lot to like about the MKZ. Its excellent navigation system includes Ford's SYNC system, which allows voice commands of not just the nav, but your Bluetooth-connected cell phone and music device as well. The MKZ shares some of its practicality with the Fusion as well, such as a big trunk, and adds things like blind spot detection and even cross-traffic detection. The only real downside is a price that rapidly climbs into the $40,000 range, and a physical similarity to the less expensive Fusion that's still hard to ignore, even after the redesign.
