2010 Mazda CX-7 s Touring Front-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 7.9

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to s Grand Touring front-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A five-passenger, two-row crossover.
Who it's For: Families who want crossover cargo space and need no more than two LATCH points.
What's Hot: Aggressive styling, sporty demeanor.
What's Not: A little tight inside, turbocharged engine requires premium fuel.
How It Got Its Score: The Mazda CX-7 s is a little small inside and despite its turbocharged four-cylinder engine, is still bested in fuel economy by many V-6-powered competitors.

The Mazda CX-7 has been on sale for a number of years now, and received a styling update last year. While the CX-7 is classified as a midsize crossover, it's noticably smaller than many other vehicles in this category, offering less passenger and cargo space. In addition, the CX-7's doesn't offer a V-6, but instead comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Many manufacturers use smaller turbocharged engines to improve performance without hurting fuel economy, but in this case it doesn't quite pan out since the CX-7's fuel economy numbers aren't any better than many V-6 competitors. In addition, unlike many V-6 vehicles, the CX-7's turbocharged engine demands more expensive premium fuel, and that adds up quickly. However, the CX-7 offers up aggressive styling and sporty driving to match, so if you're willing to sacrifice some utility for better handling, then the Mazda CX-7 is probably already on your list.
