2010 Mazda CX-7 s Touring All-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 7.7

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to s Grand Touring all-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A five-passenger, two-row crossover.
Who it's For: Families who want crossover cargo space and need no more than two LATCH points.
What's Hot: Aggressive styling, sporty demeanor.
What's Not: A little tight inside, turbocharged engine requires premium fuel.
How It Got Its Score: The Mazda CX-7 s is a little small inside and despite its turbocharged four-cylinder engine, is still bested in fuel economy by many V-6-powered competitors.

The Mazda CX-7 has been on sale for a number of years now, and received a styling update last year. While the CX-7 is classified as a midsize crossover, it just barely scrapes into the category, so many competitors offer more cargo and passenger space. The CX-7 doesn't offer a V-6, but instead comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder. While manufacturers will often use a smaller turbocharged engine to help improve fuel economy, in this case it doesn't quite pan out, as the CX-7's fuel economy numbers are no better than many V-6 powered competitors, and are further hurt by this model's all-wheel drive. That's not such a big deal, except that the CX-7 demands more expensive premium fuel, which adds up quickly. What the CX-7 does offer is aggressive styling and sporty driving to match it. In other words, if you're willing to sacrifice some utility for better handling, then the Mazda CX-7 is probably already on your list.
