2010 Mazda CX-9 Sport All-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 7.6

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to Touring and Grand Touring all-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A seven-passenger, three-row crossover.
Who it's For: Families who need a third row and no more than three LATCH points.
What's Hot: Sporty styling and a surprisingly luxurious interior.
What's Not: So-so fuel economy, less cargo space than competitors.
How It Got Its Score: The Mazda CX-9 offers a powerful V-6 engine, but fuel economy is below many competitors. The base price is also higher than many competitors.

The CX-9 is Mazda's largest crossover, with three rows and seven-passenger capacity. Like the smaller CX-7, the CX-9 received a styling update for the 2009 model year. Like most Mazdas, the CX-9 offers an enthusiast's alternative to most of its competitors, with an emphasis on sporty handling and performance. As a result, the CX-9 backs up its aggressive looks with a powerful V-6, but fuel economy suffers compared to many competitors with similar drivetrains. Like most all-wheel drive crossovers, we think that unless you live in an area prone to bad weather you can save money and stick with the front-wheel drive version, which also gets better fuel economy.
