Mercury
2010 Mercury Milan V-6 Premier
What it Is: A midsize, V-6, five-passenger sedan.
Who it's For: Families who need no more than two LATCH points.
What's Hot: Subtle styling, strong V-6 engine and a comfortable interior.
What's Not: Slightly more expensive than similar Ford Fusion.
Family Friendly Options: Bluetooth, backup camera, SYNC, navigation.
How It Got Its Score: The 2010 Mercury Milan V-6 is a premium version of the Ford Fusion, with a nicer interior and more standard features. It costs a bit more than a Fusion though, which lowers its score slightly.
Mercury is a half-step between mainstream Ford products and the more luxurious Lincoln cars and trucks. Thus, cars like the 2010 mercury Milan, which is based on the Ford Fusion, costs a little more, but adds extra features to make it all worthwhile. Mechanically though the cars are identical, with the same V-6 engine, same six-speed automatic transmission, suspension, etc. The differences are mostly subjective. The Mercury's styling is less aggressive than the Ford's, which may appeal to some buyers. The interior styling is also a little different. Its options are mixed a little differently as well, but not so much so that you can't get stuff here that's not available on the Fusion. If the idea of the Ford Fusion's 16.5 cu.-ft. trunk and Ford's wonderful SYNC voice-activated navigation and music system appeal to you, but you don't like the Ford's styling, then the Mercury is a worthy alternative.
