2010 Mitsubishi Endeavor SE All-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 7.5

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications apply to this model only.

What it Is: A five-passenger, all-wheel drive crossover utility vehicle.
Who it's For: Families who need no more than two LATCH points, all-weather capability, five-passenger capacity and ample cargo room.
What's Hot: Ample cargo space.
What's Not: Poor fuel economy, high price.
Family Friendly Options: iPod interface, navigation.
How It Got Its Score: The Mitsubishi Endeavor is an older vehicle, and not surprisingly, it isn't very competitive with today's newer crossovers. It offers up a big cargo area, but the all-wheel drive SE has even worse fuel economy than the LS, and only so-so safety scores.

The Mitsubishi Endeavor has been on the market since 2003, when it was introduced as a 2004 model. In the past decade, the crossover market has heated up considerably, and unfortunately, it has left the big Mitsu behind. The Endeavor's 3.8-liter V-6 sounds impressive, but its 225 hp lags well behind other crossovers, like the Ford Edge. So does its fuel economy, which at 17 mpg on the EPA's combined cycle is unimpressive. If the Endeavor has a saving grace it's cargo room. With 40.7 cu.-ft. of storage space behind the second row of seats, there's ample space for pretty much anything you'd need. With all-wheel drive the Endeavor gains all-weather utility, but its price gets pushed even farther north, cresting $32,000 when you add in the $765 destination charge. Navigation is available as part of a $2,500 package, but if you're planning on spending nearly $35,000 on a crossover, there are probably better values out there unless you're a die-hard Mitsubishi fan.
