2010 Nissan Cube 1.8 S

Family Friendliness: 7.6

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications apply to all Cube models.

What it Is: A compact five-passenger wagon.
What's Hot: Cool styling, great fuel economy.
What's Not: Cargo space quite small for a hatchback.
Family Friendly Options: Backup camera, USB, Bluetooth.
How It Got Its Score: The Cube is a compact wagon, giving it an advantage over smaller subcompact sedans. However, it's not exactly a cargo hauler, and thus its score suffers somewhat.

The 2010 Nissan Cube is one of a new generation of cool boxes-on-wheels, kicked off a few years ago with the original Scion xB. This new entry into the market is loaded with lots of style, including an asymmetrical rear window that wraps around on one side, but hosts a pillar on the other. If you like funky, this is a good call. However, the Cube has some shortcomings, specifically in cargo room. Its tiny dimensions may be good for parking, but with only 11.4 cu.-ft. of cargo space behind the rear seats, there's not much room for a stroller, or even a few groceries. If you want an automatic, the Cube is also a little pricey, considering its size. An automatic is only available on the 1.8 S model, and even then it's $1,000 more than the manual transmission. On the other hand, how many tiny hatchbacks offer a rear view camera?
