What's Not: Fuel economy only so-so.
Family Friendly Options: Navigation system, back up camera, Bluetooth
How It Got Its Score:The 2010 Nissan Pathfinder offers a third row, which is good news, but its fuel economy lags some of its competition, and its crash test scores are only so-so, including a "Marginal" rear impact rating from the IIHS.

The 2010 Nissan Pathfinder is in many ways a miniaturized version of the much larger Nissan Armada. This isn't just in appearance either, as they are both based off the same basic underpinnings. However, the Pathfinder suffers from some shortcomings that its competition -- midsize SUVs -- don't contend with. First off, its fuel economy, even with the standard V-6 engine, is only a so-so 17 mpg in the EPA's combined cycle. The more fuel-conscious S FE+ gets slightly better mileage -- 18 mpg on the city cycle -- but it's not available with many of the Pathfinder's options, such as a built-in navigation system and backup camera. On the other hand, the Pathfinder offers very good towing capacity even in V-6 models, and it offers a third seating row as well. If you need to haul 6,000 lbs., occasionally need a third row of seats and don't want a full-size SUV the Pathfinder V-6 is worth a look.
