Nissan

2010 Nissan Pathfinder S

Family Friendliness: 7.1

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to SE and LE V-6 four-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A four-door, seven-passenger, four-wheel drive sport utility vehicle.
What's Hot: Third row seat expands passenger carrying flexibility.
What's Not: Fuel economy only so-so.
Family Friendly Options: Navigation system, back up camera, Bluetooth
How It Got Its Score: The 2010 Nissan Pathfinder's third row of seats and good towing capacity aren't enough to offset poor fuel economy and so-so crash test scores that include a "Marginal" rear impact rating from the IIHS.

With four-wheel drive, the 2010 Nissan Pathfinder is one tough off-road beast. It should be, since it shares a lot of its mechanical underpinnings with the bigger Nissan Armada. With a third row of seats and a powerful V-6 engine that allows towing capacity up to 6,000 pounds, the Pathfinder can be considered a more maneuverable version of that big Armada. If that's not enough power and towing for you, it's also available with the Armada's V-8 engine. However, it unfortunately forgets that it's a smaller truck when it comes to fuel economy, which trails many of its competitors in the midsize SUV market. We are also disappointed in the Pathfinder's crash test ratings. Although four-star frontal impact ratings from the NHTSA aren't unsafe, a lot of other vehicles get better scores. Still, there aren't that many real off-road capable SUVs on the roads these days, and the Pathfinder's seven-passenger capacity and very good towing make it worth a look.
