If you buy a Subaru, you get all-wheel drive. It's standard on every Subaru model, including the 2010 Subaru Forester, making the vehicles popular in areas where low traction is a fact of life. The Forester is Subaru's compact crossover, and a pretty good one, with room for five, generous cargo space, and plenty of safety features. The downside is that all-wheel drive, despite its all-weather traction advantages, lowers fuel economy, which gives some competitors an advantage. Still, if you need all-wheel drive and like the Forester's strengths, then it's worth a look. Note that if you opt for the five-speed manual transmission, fuel economy improves, and you save $1,200 on the Subaru Forester 2.5X, and $1,000 on Subaru Forester 2.5X Premium models (it's not available on Limited models).
