2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Premium

Family Friendliness: 7.6

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to Limited models.

What it Is: An all-wheel drive four-door turbocharged midsize sedan.
What's Hot: Lots of power, standard full-time all-wheel drive, great crash test scores.
What's Not: Only available with manual transmission.
Family Friendly Options: Navigation, USB, Bluetooth.
How It Got Its Score: The 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT's Family Friendliness score falls precipitously from the base model's because of its much higher price and significantly lower fuel economy.

Subaru has a long history of making performance cars, and its Impreza STI high-performance compact hatchback has attained cult status for its outstanding performance. The 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT brings some of that performance feel to the Legacy lineup, and all of it with the same excellent safety features of the base car. However, the Legacy 2.5GT's added performance isn't without penalty. First, even the lowest-price Legacy 2.5GT is expensive, costing more than $28,000 when you include destination. Second, while the turbocharged engine adds almost 100 horsepower over the base model, it also significantly hurts fuel economy, which plummets 5 mpg in the EPA's combined cycle. Finally, if you want this turbocharged sedan, you'll have to learn to drive stick: It's not available with an automatic transmission. However, if you want more power from your Legacy but don't want to drive stick, Subaru offers the Legacy 3.6R, which comes with a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission.
