2010 Toyota Corolla XRS
What it Is: A compact sporty four-door sedan.
What's Hot: Sporty version of Toyota's Corolla sedan.
What's Not: Not very high on value.
Family Friendly Options: Navigation, Bluetooth.
How It Got Its Score: As a sporty version of the Toyota Corolla, the 2010 Corolla XRS offers more power at a higher price. However, fuel economy suffers, which drags down its score.
The Toyota Corolla is sensible, practical and economical. However, it's not a lot of fun, and that's what the 2010 Toyota Corolla XRS tries to fix. With more power from a bigger four-cylinder engine and a suspension set up for better handling, the Corolla has the goods, at least on paper. However, there are many other sporty compact cars available, and the Corolla XRS comes up short next to two of its primary competitors: The Honda Civic Si is more expensive, but offers a lot more power; the Nissan Sentra SE-R costs the same but is a better bargain for sporty compact seekers. While the Corolla XRS may satisfy the needs of a Toyota-only family seeking a slightly sportier version of the venerable Corolla nameplate, we think the base car's S model is a better value overall.
