2010 Toyota RAV4 V-6 All-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 8.2

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to Sport and Limited V-6 all-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A two-row five passenger midsize crossover with an optional third row.
Who it's For: Families who don't need only two LATCH points, and maybe an occasional third row seat.
What's Hot: Competes against other compact crossovers with only two rows of seats.
What's Not: More expensive than competitors, larger, too.
How It Got Its Score: The RAV4 offers good cargo space behind the second row of seats and OK fuel economy for a V-6. All-wheel drive adds expense and lowers fuel economy though.

With a V-6 engine and all-wheel drive, you can still get into a RAV4 for about $25,000, not bad for a small midsize crossover with an optional third row. That third row costs extra (it's part of a $1,320 option package), but the added utility can be worth it, and the price is very reasonable. There's even more cargo space behind the third row than there is in Toyota's three-row Highlander. The V-6 adds power but hurts fuel economy, especially with all-wheel drive, so consider carefully if you need that extra power and added traction. Still, add it all up and the RAV4 makes one compelling package, which is why it's one of the most popular vehicles in its class.
