How It Got Its Score: The 2010 Jetta offers a big trunk, and the five-cylinder engine gets good if not great fuel economy. However, its base price is considerably higher than other compact sedans.
The 2010 Volkswagen Jetta's primary advantage over its competition is trunk space. At 16.0 cu.-ft., it's bigger than many midsize and even full-size sedans. However, when compared to its rivals, the Jetta falls short in one primary category: Price. While the Jetta's nicely equipped, its base price if more than $19,000 (including destination and an automatic transmission) is as high as the price on some manufacturer's premium models. Note that you can save $1,100 if you opt for the manual transmission. Still, that trunk space speaks volumes (pun intended), and it mitigates the Jetta's price handicap compared to many other compact competitors.
