Crossovers

2010 Dodge Journey SE

Family Friendliness: 8.4

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications apply to this model only.

What it Is: The Dodge Journey is a five-passenger crossover utility vehicle.
Who it's For: Families who need no more than two LATCH points.
What's Hot: Attractive styling and good interior room, with an optional third row.
What's Not: So-so fuel economy, considering the four-cylinder engine.
How It Got Its Score: The Dodge Journey has many of the pieces in place, giving it a good score compared to other five-passenger crossovers.

The Journey is Dodge's entry into the hotly-contested crossover market. It's also one of the few midsize crossovers that's available with a four-cylinder engine. However, fuel economy is only marginally better than some V-6 competitors, which mitigates that advantage significantly. It's also more competitive as a five-passenger vehicle than as a seven passenger. While the third row does allow you to carry two additional passengers, the $995 price bump and significant cargo capacity penalty (there's only 10.7 cu. ft. of space behind that third row) lowers the Family Friendliness rating to 8.3. One of our favorite things about the Journey is the $295 Family Value option group, which includes two integrated child booster seats in the second row. Many other options are available on this base model, making it a good alternative for buyers on a budget.
