2010 Honda Civic Sedan Hybrid

Family Friendliness: 7.4

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications apply to this model only.

What it Is: A four-door compact hybrid sedan.
What's Hot: Great fuel economy and decent passenger room.
What's Not:
Fuel economy lags other hybrids.
Family Friendly Options: Navigation, Bluetooth, USB port.
How It Got Its Score: The Honda Civic is already at a disadvantage because of its small size and limited cargo room. The Civic Hybrid's added cost and reduced cargo space only reduce the score.

Hybrids may be great for the environment, but they generally aren't the most family friendly vehicles you can get, thanks to their higher price and usually limited cargo space. The 2010 Honda Civic Hybrid is no exception. The battery pack for the hybrid system cuts trunk space down to 10.4 cu.-ft., and the price is more than $24,000 when you include the $710 destination charge. Since it doesn't look much different from a standard Civic, it doesn't make the same kind of "I drive a hybrid" statement that a Toyota Prius or even Honda's own Insight makes, either. On the other hand, the Civic Hybrid does get excellent fuel economy, and for a compact it's pretty roomy. If your kids are old enough that you no longer need to haul a stroller everywhere, then you might consider it. Otherwise, check out the standard Civic, and you could save a few bucks up front as well.
