2010 Ford Escape Hybrid Front-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 7.9

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to LImited front-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A hybrid front-wheel drive five-passenger crossover.
Who it's For: Those who need crossover room and are willing to pay extra for better fuel economy.
What's Hot: Hybrid drivetrain gives the Escape best-in-class fuel economy.
What's Not: Base price of nearly $30,000 is hard to justify.
How It Got Its Score: While the Escape Hybrid's utility and fuel economy are both very good, its price is far more expensive than many other vehicles.

The Ford Escape Hybrid is a good all-around utility vehicle, and one that gets excellent fuel economy to boot. By all other measures, it's a good choice for those looking for fuel-efficient family-friendly transportation. However, its price is more than $30,000 when you include the destination charge, and that's for the "base" front-wheel drive model. That puts it $32,225 including destination, and that's for the "base" hybrid model. That price is far higher than most other compact crossovers, and about $8,000 more than a four-cylinder Escape, which already gets pretty good gas mileage. Still, if you're looking for a compact crossover, need no more than two rows and don't mind paying a premium for a high-tech powertrain, then the Escape Hybrid is probably exactly what you're looking for.
