2010 Kia Sedona Short Wheelbase

Family Friendliness: 8.7

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications apply to this model only.

What it Is: A short-wheelbase, full-size seven-passenger minivan.
What's Hot: Shorter wheelbase means it's more maneuverable.
What's Not:
Can't get all the options available on long wheelbase models; small cargo area.
Family Friendly Options: Standard USB port.
How It Got Its Score: Normally a full-sized minivan would score better, but the short version of the Kia Sedona has a few strikes, such as a small cargo area, no power sliding doors and only two LATCH points.

It used to be that all minivans came in short and long versions, but today, Kia is the only manufacturer to still offer a short version of its minivan. The "short wheelbase" version -- wheelbase is the distance between the front and rear wheels -- has the same power and fuel economy as the bigger version, and has the same crash test scores and basic safety equipment as well. However, it unfortunately suffers from a few drawbacks, mainly the much smaller cargo area: 12.9 cu.-ft. in this one vs. 32.2 cu.-ft. for the long wheelbase version. The short Sedona is also the base model, which means that things like a navigation system, leather interior, rear-seat entertainment system or even power sliding doors simply aren't available. For basic on-the-cheap family transportation it's a good call, but you can do better without even leaving the Kia dealership with the long version of the Sedona.
