How It Got Its Score: While the Grand Caravan falls short in a couple of areas, it's priced aggressively to give it an excellent Family Friendliness rating.

Dodge invented the modern minivan in 1984, and it still is one of the leaders when it comes to sales. However, the current generation of Grand Caravan falls short compared to some of its competition, especially the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna. The current generation of Dodge Grand Caravan was introduced for the 2008 model year, and boasts good crash test scores and standard safety equipment for a good Family Friendliness rating. However, that base price gets you only the middle engine; the 4.0-liter V-6 offers more power and better fuel economy, but costs an additional $630. We think it's worth the money. Some other options, such as second-row seats that can be turned to face the rear, are of dubious value, especially considering that they weigh 90 pounds each when they need to be removed to maximize cargo space. Still, the traditional minivan virtues of lots of room for kids and their stuff are in place, and the price can be kept in check if you skip some of the options.
