2010 Audi A4 Premium All-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 7.1

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to Premium Plus and Prestige all-wheel drive models.

What it Is: A four-door, all-wheel drive five-passenger small luxury sedan.
What's Hot: Striking good looks.
What's Not: High entry price, expensive options, small trunk.
Family Friendly Options: Navigation, active cruise control, blind-spot warning.
How It Got Its Score: The 2010 Audi A4's quattro all-wheel drive may make enthusiasts smile, but it hurts fuel economy and adds expense, driving the Family Friendliness score down.

Audi calls its all-wheel drive system "quattro," and it has been a hallmark of the brand since the 1980s. The 2010 Audi A4 is the anchor of Audi's presence in the U.S. market. As an enhancement for performance driving it's terrific, but for a family, there are other things to consider. For example, it adds considerably to the cost of the car, and also results in a fuel economy hit. On the other hand, the most luxurious version of the A4, the Premium, isn't available without quattro. Keep in mind that Audi is a luxury brand, so you really do get what you pay for...and you might pay a lot. For example, Audi's navigation and entertainment system costs $2,500, and is only available on Premium Plus and Prestige models. That pretty silver that looks so good on Audis? It'll set you back an extra $475. Note that you'll get better fuel economy and a lower price (by about $1,000) if you opt for a manual transmission.
