2010 Chevrolet Aveo Sedan LS

Family Friendliness: 5.4

Recommended: No

Specifications also apply to 1LT and 2LT models.

What it Is: A compact four-door sedan.
Who it's For: Families who value low price over anything else.
What's Hot: Extremely low base price.
What's Not: Poor crash test scores.
Family Friendly Options: Keyless entry.
How It Got Its Score: The Chevy Aveo doesn't offer much for families. While the price is low, stability and traction control aren't available, anti-lock brakes are only an option, and it gets a "Poor" in the IIHS impact crash test.

The old adage of "you get what you pay for" is still true when it comes to the 2010 Chevy Aveo sedan. This subcompact offers little to families, save for a very low base price. However, to get that low price you sacrifice just about everything else; even air conditioning isn't available on base models. To get it, or other options like power windows, you have to pay considerably more, and suddenly you're looking at the same price of other, much better inexpensive cars like the Toyota Yaris. Traction and stability control are absent from the options list, and anti-lock brakes are only available on the 2LT model. Couple that with a "Poor" rating in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's rear impact test, and you wind up with a low Family Friendliness score. Even though we haven't driven it, we wouldn't feel comfortable putting our own kids in the Aveo, and thus can't recommend it. If you must buy an inexpensive Chevy, check out the Cobalt. Even though it's not the highest-scoring compact sedan on the market, it's better than the Aveo, and thanks to heavy incentives, it's not much more expensive.
