2010 Chevrolet Tahoe LS Rear-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 8.2

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to 1LT and LTZ models

What it Is: A full-size body-on-frame SUV
Who it's For: Those who need maximum passenger hauling, and also need to tow a heavy load.
What's Hot: Best-in-class fuel economy.
What's Not: "Best in class" isn't much to brag about.
How It Got Its Score: The Tahoe is a roomy vehicle that seats up to eight, but its fuel economy is pretty poor, and even the base models are on the expensive side.

While crossover vehicles have been taking a bigger and bigger slice of the utility vehicle pie, there's still a place for traditional body-on-frame SUVs like the Tahoe, especially if you need to tow heavy loads. A new transmission last year improved fuel economy, giving the Tahoe best-in-class status. However, it's still dismal compared to most vehicles these days, making it hard to justify unless you need that towing capacity. For most people, a better alternative is sitting next to the Tahoe on Chevy showrooms: The 2010 Chevy Traverse offers more interior room and better cargo packaging in a less expensive and more fuel efficient package.

That's not to knock the Tahoe though. Even if you don't need four-wheel drive, its towing ability is beyond reproach. It's also a good looking vehicle inside and out, with a comfortable interior that offers room for eight passengers.
