2010 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid Four-Wheel Drive

Family Friendliness: 8.2

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications apply to this model only.

What it Is: A full-sized body-on frame SUV, with a hybrid powertrain.
Who it's For: Those who need to haul people, things and a boat, but with the best possible fuel economy.
What's Hot: Fuel economy is very good for such a large vehicle.
What's Not: A very high price.
How It Got Its Score: The Tahoe seats up to eight, has lots of cargo space and offers very good fuel economy. If the price were lower, the score could be much higher.

The Chevrolet Tahoe may not be the first vehicle that comes to mind when one thinks "hybrid," but it offers very good fuel economy for a vehicle its size, on par with many smaller utility vehicles. The primary advantages to the Tahoe Hybrid are that its ability to tow and haul are only slightly diminished compared to gasoline-only versions, and with optional four-wheel drive it even retains off-road ability. The Tahoe Hybrid unfortunately has a price of more than $50,000, which makes it a difficult sale. However, potential buyers should also note that the equipment levels on the Hybrid are on par with the top-line LTZ gas-only models, rather than the base LS. In other words, you get a lot more stuff too, not just a fancy drivetrain.

On the other hand, the Tahoe Hybrid suffers from some of the same drawbacks as regular Tahoes, such as an inefficient third row folding mechanism and a passenger compartment that feels small considering the overall size of the vehicle. Still, the Tahoe Hybrid looks good inside and out and is a comfortable daily driver.
