2010 Honda Ridgeline RT

Family Friendliness: 7.2

Recommended: Not Yet Driven

Specifications also apply to RTS and RTL models.

What it Is: A four-door, five-passenger short-bed pickup.
What's Hot: In-bed trunk offers lockable storage.
What's Not:
Car-based chassis means it gives up where other trucks don't.
Family Friendly Options: Navigation, USB, in-bed trunk.
How It Got Its Score: Generally, trucks are at a disadvantage because they lack lockable storage that isn't just inside the cab. The Ridgeline's in-bed trunk helps, but its high price, low fuel economy and limited seating hurt.

Honda is not a company that tends to follow a given path, and when it made its first pickup, that remained true. The 2010 Honda Ridgeline is not a pickup like a Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado. Instead, it's based on a very heavily modified version of the Pilot's platform, which means it ultimately owes its roots to cars, not trucks. As such, it's not available with a low-range transfer case, as most other four-wheel drive trucks are. However, the Ridgeline does offer things that other trucks don't, such as the clever in-bed trunk, which is a lockable storage compartment under the floor of the truck bed. The tailgate also opens to the side, like a door, or folds down in the usual manner. The Ridgeline isn't intended for serious off-road or hauling duty, but as a city truck that occasionally ventures onto slightly rutted dirt roads. If that describes you, and you don't need more than five seats, it might be worth the $30,000 asking price.
