How It Got Its Score: The Insight is a small hatchback with moderately good cargo space. Fuel economy is good, but not good enough to fully offset a few four-star crash test ratings.
The 2010 Honda Insight isn't aimed directly at the Toyota Prius. It's aimed just under it instead, in size, price and fuel economy numbers. In that sense, it's a bullseye, since it gets very good (but not great) fuel economy and offers good (but not great) interior room. Still, the little Insight has its shortcomings. Cargo space is limited, even compared to the Honda Fit, which shares many of the same underpinnings. On the other hand, the EX model can be equipped with navigation, it looks different from any other Honda product, and a 41 mpg combined average is nothing to sneeze at. The main thing the 2010 Honda Insight has going for it is price, which undercuts any other hybrid by a few thousand dollars.
